The simplicity and adherence to age old tradition is the essential feature of Assamese Wedding Traditions.

The Assamese boast of their elaborate pre marriage traditions which are in pace with the marriages of other religions. As the bride and the groom are chosen the horoscopes are exchanged. After due consideration by the astrologers, the family of the couples take the initiative to arrange for the auspicious date of marriage. Since Indian Wedding Traditions call for a distinct pre-marriage ceremony, the Assamese follow the process of Juran Ceremony in which a new ring is put on the girl's finger as a mark of engagement. Assamese Wedding Traditions insist that the bride and groom must take ceremonial baths, known as Nowani till the marriage day. During Pani Tola, water is drawn from the river or tank by women, who, while walking in a procession, sing marriage songs.
The marriage ceremony continues for three days. The first day of the occasion is known as the Jorondiya, when a party of women from the groom’s house visits the bride's house and presents her with bridal dresses and ornaments. The next day is calculated as the wedding day which starts off with the ceremony of daiyan diya. The Assamese Wedding Traditions call for the couple to be led to the place under the pandal where the wedding ceremony takes place. During the ceremony the women sing marriage-songs. The melodious wedding song ‘biya naam’ is sung by the invitees. The marriage ceremony comes to an end after some ritual and prayers, which is followed by a reception. Wedding Traditions of Assamese believes in offerings prayer to two imaginary demons named Khoba and Khubuni to ensure peaceful co-existence between the two. Later the bride is taken to the groom’s house and start on a new journey.
