The wedding attire is a very important part of Kannada wedding traditions. In a Kannada marriage ceremony it is customary for the bride to wear navari saree and green bangles made of glass and gold jewellery. The groom wears a dhoti, a pheta, a turban and angavastram. The groom holds a stick which is sanctified in a holy place before the wedding. After that the groom proceeds with his wedding party toward the wedding venue after bowing down to the elders in his house and the Gods and Goddesses. The bride party welcomes the groom and his party in their traditional style which include an arti performed by the married women from the bride's side and then lead the groom with his party to the marriage hall.
Kaashi yatre is a playful ritual where the groom pretends to get angry as no body taking the initiative to search for a suitable bride for him and threatens to leave the home for Kashi (Benaras). The groom carries an umbrella, a fan, a coconut, a walking stick, some rice, pulses and dhoti. At this point of time his maternal uncle steps in and promise to bring a suitable bride for him.
After that the wedding ritual start with the Mandap Puja, followed by Jaimala (garland) recitation of the marriage mantras, exchanging ceremony), Dhare Herdu (giving away of the bride to the groom), Shaptapadi (encircling the wedding spot seven times), vidaai (farewell of the bride) and Graha Parvesh (welcome of bride into her new house).
