The rituals which are basically attributed to marriage are commonly found in Telugu Wedding Traditions. People living in the region of Andhra Pradesh follow the wedding rituals which are based are on rich symbolism putting more stress on spirituality rather than on religion. Since the Telugu community does believe on auspiciousness, they arrange the marriage except the months of Aashad, Bhadrapad and Shunya. A major ritual performed as a pre-marriage ceremony is the Pendlikoothuru, where the couple is anointed with turmeric and perfumed oils. In Kashi yatra ceremony, the groom pretends to leave for the pilgrimage center of Kashi and after several requests accepts the responsibility of a protector of the bride.
